Riding Into Ancient Kingdoms: Meknes to Volubilis
Leaving Meknes behind, I rode towards Volubilis, one of Morocco’s most remarkable ancient sites. The busy streets gradually gave way to quieter roads, open countryside and rolling hills—a welcome change after spending time inside the city.
Arriving at Volubilis felt like riding into another world. Ancient columns, stone arches and the remains of Roman buildings stood scattered across the landscape, surrounded by green fields and distant mountains. Some of the structures may be gone, but enough remains to imagine how impressive this city must once have been.
Walking through the ruins, I discovered incredibly detailed mosaics that had survived beneath the open sky for centuries. There were no glass cases or modern buildings separating me from the history—just ancient stone, silence and plenty of space to explore.
The ride from Meknes to Volubilis was not the most dramatic part of my journey, but it was one of the most memorable. A peaceful road, an ancient city and another completely unexpected side of Morocco.
I’ll be documenting this adventure along the way — the good, the bad, and everything in between. If you want to ride with me through Africa’s deserts, mountains, chaos, and calm, you can follow the journey on Instagram, and TikTok. I’ll be sharing stories from the road, raw moments, and the reality behind chasing freedom on two wheels.
So, come along for the ride — the long way through Africa.
Peace!
