I Rode Into Fes,… and Stepped Straight Into Another Century
Riding into Fes meant entering another busy Moroccan city, with crowded roads, unpredictable traffic and scooters squeezing through every available gap. But once I left the motorcycle behind and stepped inside the old medina, the modern world seemed to disappear.
The streets quickly became a maze of narrow passageways, crowded markets and workshops hidden behind ancient walls. Donkeys carried goods through alleys barely wide enough for two people, traders called out from small shops, and the smell of spices, food and leather followed me through the city.
Eventually, I reached the famous tanneries, where leather is still treated and dyed using methods that have changed very little over the centuries. From above, the rows of colourful stone vats created one of the most unusual sights I had seen in Morocco—even if the smell was almost impossible to ignore.
Fes was chaotic, intense and sometimes completely overwhelming, but it also felt authentic in a way few places do. Riding into the city was only the beginning. Behind its walls, I stepped straight into another century.
I’ll be documenting this adventure along the way — the good, the bad, and everything in between. If you want to ride with me through Africa’s deserts, mountains, chaos, and calm, you can follow the journey on Instagram, and TikTok. I’ll be sharing stories from the road, raw moments, and the reality behind chasing freedom on two wheels.
So, come along for the ride — the long way through Africa.
Peace!
