Terrible Roads & Wild Encounters | My First Ride to Senegal 🇲🇷🇸🇳
Leaving Mauritania behind, I continued south toward the border with Senegal, ready to begin the next stage of my journey across Africa. The landscape was still dry and exposed, but the road conditions deteriorated quickly. Broken surfaces, deep potholes, loose sand and unpredictable traffic made what looked like a straightforward border ride far more demanding than expected.
Crossing the border marked an immediate change in atmosphere. After the emptiness and harsh desert landscapes of Mauritania, Senegal felt busier, greener and more alive. There were more villages, roadside activity and people moving in every direction. The ride required constant concentration, but it also brought a renewed sense of excitement as I entered another country for the first time.
One of the day’s strangest encounters came when I spotted a warthog near the road. Seeing wildlife so close to the route was an unexpected reminder that travelling through West Africa can change without warning—from damaged roads and border procedures to moments that feel completely surreal.
The first kilometres in Senegal were far from smooth, but they were memorable. The roads were difficult, the surroundings were changing rapidly and everything felt unfamiliar again. After the long desert chapter in Mauritania, entering Senegal felt like the beginning of a completely different Africa—more colourful, crowded and unpredictable.
I’ll be documenting this adventure along the way — the good, the bad, and everything in between. If you want to ride with me through Africa’s deserts, mountains, chaos, and calm, you can follow the journey on Instagram, and TikTok. I’ll be sharing stories from the road, raw moments, and the reality behind chasing freedom on two wheels.
So, come along for the ride — the long way through Africa.
Peace!
