Riding in Guinea Is Something Else 🇬🇳 | A Ride to Remember

From Kissidougou, I continued south toward Nzérékoré, following a route that took me through some of the most varied scenery and road conditions I had encountered in Guinea. The day would be long, hot and physically demanding, but it also revealed another impressive side of the country.

My first major stop was Guéckédou, a busy town where I refuelled and found something to eat before continuing. The streets and markets were full of activity, with people, motorcycles, taxis and roadside traders filling almost every available space. It was a useful break before the next stretch of the journey, but the heat was already beginning to take its toll.

From Guéckédou, I rode south toward Macenta. The road was inconsistent throughout the day: sections of broken tarmac and deep potholes were followed by long stretches of smooth, newly built road. The constant changes made it difficult to settle into a rhythm. One moment the riding was relaxed and fast; the next, I was slowing down sharply to avoid damaged surfaces.

Despite the conditions, the landscapes were exceptional. The route passed through green hills, dense vegetation, small villages and larger towns with crowded roadside markets. There was always something happening along the way—children watching from the roadside, people carrying goods between villages, local traffic moving in every direction and communities built directly around the road.

By the time I finally reached Nzérékoré, I was exhausted. The combination of intense heat, long hours in the saddle and unpredictable road conditions had made it one of the most demanding days of the journey through Guinea. Still, the ride had been memorable: a mixture of rough roads, new tarmac, busy towns and some of the most beautiful landscapes I had seen in the country.
