Riding to Abidjan Was Pure Magic 🇨🇮 Bats, City Vibes & Freedom
After the difficult events surrounding my departure from Nzérékoré, crossing into Ivory Coast and reaching Yamoussoukro gave me time to stop and reflect. From there, I continued south toward Abidjan, ready to leave the weight of the previous days behind and rediscover the simple freedom of being on the road.
The ride toward the coast revealed a different side of Ivory Coast. The roads were more enjoyable, the landscape was vibrant and the atmosphere gradually became busier as I approached the country’s largest city. After the exhausting roads, oppressive heat and uncertainty of Guinea, this stage felt lighter and far more relaxed. For the first time since the accident, I could begin enjoying the journey again.
Arriving in Abidjan was an immediate change of scale. Traffic, modern buildings, crowded streets and constant movement replaced the quieter countryside. The city felt energetic and alive, with a character completely different from Yamoussoukro. One of its most memorable sights was the enormous number of fruit bats flying above the city and gathering in the trees—an extraordinary natural spectacle in the middle of a major urban centre.
Abidjan combined intensity with an unexpected sense of freedom. It was busy and chaotic, but after everything that had happened, simply reaching the city and continuing the expedition felt significant. The motorcycle was moving, the journey was still alive and another major West African capital had been reached.
This episode marked an emotional reset. It was not about surviving terrible roads or dealing with another crisis. It was about enjoying the ride again, experiencing the atmosphere of Abidjan and remembering why I had started this journey in the first place.
I’ll be documenting this adventure along the way — the good, the bad, and everything in between. If you want to ride with me through Africa’s deserts, mountains, chaos, and calm, you can follow the journey on Instagram, and TikTok. I’ll be sharing stories from the road, raw moments, and the reality behind chasing freedom on two wheels.
So, come along for the ride — the long way through Africa.
Peace!
