I Rode Into One of Africa’s Least-Visited Countries, 🇨🇬 Congo

After leaving Cameroon behind, I crossed into the Republic of the Congo, reaching another major milestone of the African expedition. This was a country I had been looking forward to for a long time, but also one that carried a reputation for being extremely difficult to travel through by road. Many people consider Congo one of the most challenging countries in Africa for overland travellers, especially when riding solo.

Crossing the border into Congo felt like entering a completely different world. The busy roads and cities of Cameroon disappeared, replaced by dense jungle, remote settlements and long stretches surrounded by some of the most untouched landscapes of the journey. The Congo Basin is one of the largest rainforest regions on Earth, and riding through it gave a real sense of how vast and isolated this part of Africa is.

The road conditions, however, were not what many people expected. After hearing countless stories about impossible roads and impassable routes, I was surprised by what I found. Many sections were in surprisingly good condition, with newly built tarmac making the ride far easier and more enjoyable than imagined. Of course, travelling through Central Africa still requires preparation and patience, but the reality on the ground was very different from the warnings I had received.

The journey toward Ouesso took me through incredible scenery—endless green forests, small villages hidden along the road and people living in some of the most remote areas I had encountered during the expedition. The contrast with the deserts of Mauritania and the crowded cities of West Africa could not have been greater.

Eventually, I reached Ouesso, the gateway to northern Congo and the beginning of the next stage of my journey south. After a long day of riding through jungle roads and unfamiliar territory, I stopped for the night to rest and prepare for the next challenge: continuing south toward Brazzaville.

Entering Congo was one of those moments where the scale of the journey really became clear. I had crossed deserts, coastlines and some of Africa’s busiest countries, but now I was riding through the heart of the continent. The Congo Basin was no longer just a place on the map—it was surrounding me, kilometre after kilometre.

This was the start of one of the most memorable chapters of the entire expedition. Congo was wild, unexpected and far more accessible than many people believed. The road ahead toward Brazzaville would reveal even more of what this remarkable country had to offer.

I’ll be documenting this adventure along the way — the good, the bad, and everything in between. If you want to ride with me through Africa’s deserts, mountains, chaos, and calm, you can follow the journey on Instagram, and TikTok. I’ll be sharing stories from the road, raw moments, and the reality behind chasing freedom on two wheels.

So, come along for the ride — the long way through Africa.

Peace!
